Introducing Digital Women Award 2025 Winner

Lisa Rees: Website Designer of the Year 2025

From slick user journeys to eye-catching visuals, website designers help businesses of every size shine online. The creative who turned lines of code into serious results and is our winner of Website Designer of the Year, is Lisa Rees.

Tell us a bit about yourself.
I’m Lisa Rees, also known as the Website Wonder Woman! I run the Wonderful World of Websites, where my mission is to take the stress out of tech for women in business. I create websites, run workshops, and deliver training and strategy sessions that turn tech overwhelm into clarity, confidence, and growth. What drives me most is seeing women light up when they realise they can manage their digital world and actually enjoy it. My work isn’t just about building websites, it's about building confidence and showing women what’s possible for them and their businesses online.

What does winning this award mean to you?
Winning this award is such an honour because it feels like recognition for the heart and energy I put into empowering women with tech. To me, it’s not just about my work being seen, it's about shining a light for other women who might think, “tech isn’t for me.” This award is proof that you can show up as yourself, do things your way, and still make an impact in the digital world.

What career achievement are you most proud of?
One of my most memorable times in my business is when I worked with a lady that had retired and wanted to start a business and needed a website. Her husband had told her to pay for the site to be created but she wanted to learn how to do it herself. She took a done with you course with me and when she finished the site and showed her husband he said to her ‘oh you paid for a website in the end’ he was so shocked to learn that she had done it herself and he said he couldn’t have been prouder of her. It’s those moments that warm my heart and make me feel like I’m doing a good job!

What impact have you seen from your work?
The biggest impact is confidence. So many women come to me feeling like “I’m not techy, I’ll never get this,” and leave saying, “I can do this and I actually enjoy it now!” That ripple effect means they grow their businesses, attract more clients, and often feel more empowered in other areas of life too. I’ve seen clients go from hiding online to proudly sharing their websites, launching new offers, and doubling their income, all because they finally felt confident in their digital space.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve had to learn, and how did you grow from it?
My biggest lesson has been to stay in my own lane. When I started out, I thought I had to do things the “professional” way – suits, jargon, corporate vibes. But that just wasn’t me. Once I leaned into my colourful, fun, and magical brand (stars, wands and all!), everything clicked.

Clients connected more deeply, my business grew, and I enjoyed the work so much more. The growth came from giving myself permission to do things my way.

What’s one thing people might be surprised to learn about you?
My business is my first ever full time job and I’m 45 years old! I had my first daughter at 18 and my second at 25 and although I worked on and off part time, the majority of my life was bringing up my children. I started my business (by accident!) ten years ago to be able to work around my children. So it has all come from learning on the go and always improving (with a lot of winging it) and it’s why I’m so passionate about helping my clients grow online, whatever their background, skills or experience.

What advice would you give to the next wave of Digital Women?
Don’t wait until you feel “ready” just start. Confidence comes from taking action, not from waiting until you have it all figured out. Be yourself, be consistent, and don’t be afraid to ask for help along the way. The digital world moves fast, but the secret isn’t doing everything, it’s doing the right things for you. Keep learning, keep connecting, and most importantly, trust that you already have what it takes to make an impact.
